James H. MacDonald, M.D.

James MacDonald, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. He graduated from Georgetown University Medical School and completed his residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He then completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
Dr. MacDonald has written articles and presentations on multiple topics within the field including: knee arthrodesis, total knee arthroplasty for valgus knees and acetabular revision surgery for total hip replacements.
Current areas of interest for Dr. MacDonald and the rest of the AAMC Joint Center include analyzing different types of anesthesia for patients to make the postoperative period in the hospital as comfortable as possible. He also is examining new ways for patients to prepare for surgery and to learn about the recovery process before their operation. In addition, he is also involved in assessing the best length of stay for total joint replacement patients.
